Accusations, attempted cover-ups and betrayal surrounded the summer of 2003 ending with the disintegration of a rising basketball program. Those events ripped my life apart. Playing basketball for Baylor University was the realization of a lifelong dream. But I could have never foreseen the devastation that would rock our foundation.
Coach Scott Drew took over a broken program and his vision of “hope in the future” was hard to swallow. Yet, in the midst of so much pain, a miracle happened. Our brotherhood of “Leftovers” banded together. We were considered the underdogs, yet that didn’t deter our desire to play.
As co-captain of that team, I tell a story of tragedy, personal struggle, anger, shaken faith and perseverance. Surprisingly, I learned that we inspired our university, community and nation. The Leftovers is the story behind that story.
