Velocity Conference 2014

Here at Xulon Press, one of the most exciting things we get to do is grow our relationships and partnerships with pastors, church leaders and the groups that support them. Before I became the Director of Sales and Acquisitions at Xulon Press, I was not only a pastor, but also a pioneering church planter with the vision of reaching people for Christ and His glory. My change from church planter to sales director wasn’t because I was burned out, wanted more money or even a new position. It was all about following the calling of God for my life. That same calling I felt for planting a church is the same calling I feel now for leading and developing a team of publishing consultants and experts. It’s still all about God and His Kingdom! Now, instead of trying to build the church solely by filling pews on Sunday, I work to raise up Christ-inspired authors whose books will reach the world for Christ and His Kingdom. I know that we are impacting the world for Christ one book at a time! I also know that Xulon Press is fulfilling God’s plan by serving Christian authors and pastors.

Several years ago, I met a pastor at a church planting conference in Orlando. His name was Shawn Lovejoy, and he was part of a growing church planting movement called At that time, I was just like every other pastor gathered at the conference; I was starving for leadership and encouragement. Shawn became a personal friend of mine and we started a relationship that grew each time we ran into each other. Shawn has a unique ability to inspire and coach individuals, and has helped me in more ways than he may ever know. This year, through Xulon Press, I have been given the opportunity to work very closely with Shawn and the Church Planters organization. Xulon Press will be part of Velocity, the yearly conference hosted by The Velocity conference will be held February 17th-18th, at the Mountain Lake Church in Cumming, Georgia.

Velocity ConferenceXulon Press will not only be present at the conference to talk with pastors and leaders about their books, but we will also be sponsoring and leading some of the breakout sessions. One of those breakout sessions will be led by Dr. Larry Keefauver, and will focus on helping the pastor or potential author discover how to write the book that is hidden within them. The session that I will lead asks the question,  “Why do pastors and church planters write great books?” Why is it that most of the books that have become “game changers” were written by pastors, leaders and especially church planters?

If you are in or near the Atlanta area and you are planning on attending this conference, please come by booth #22 and see us. Our team will be there and available to talk with you. When you’ve got a moment, check out the conference and get more information on attending at

Please email me at if you are planning on attending. I’d like to personally invite you to a special reception we’re hosting for those who are working with Xulon Press. Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter. We’ll be tweeting from the event!

About the Author ()

Donald Newman, Director of Sales for Xulon Press, has over 20 years experience working with Christian authors and editors. As a Pastor for that same time, Don truly believes that every Christian book has the ability to minister to each one who reads it. "You just never know what a book can do. One book can change thousands of lives and other times we see where one book can change one life that changes thousands of lives. Just look at the many books that have touched more than one generation. Nothing has the ability of touching many generations for God like a well written Christian book." Don leads and manages the sales team at Xulon with this one thought in mind..."Books change lives everyday". At Xulon Press we are in the business of changing lives, one book at a time.

I’m very excited when I read this story on Don Newman’s Church Planting involvement and how God called him to be involved in Xulon Publishing assisting us to Publish books, which will lead to helping somebody understand the urgency to get the Word of God out.

My husband and I have been taking a course for going on two years now. The ISOM course where we watch videos’s and discuss the video in class and then do homework and memory work. We are learning to be disciples and encouraged to plant churches when we hear the calling of God on our lives. Exams again after being out of school for many years.

Thank you for planting in me the wanting to learn and grow as a Christian author. That is exactly what I desire to do, is touch people in a way that they give their life to the Lord. There is nothing more important or fullfilling as that. There is also an urgency for people to do that.

Every time I spot a new blog on my e-mail I just know I’m about to learn more,- and I appreciate it.
    Thanks everybody. God Bless you.

Congratulations to all the winners in the writing contest. Amazing!!!
