A Spiritual Mindset Towards Spring Cleaning

A Spiritual Mindset Towards Spring CleaningSpring is in the air, if you didn’t already know, as you combat pollen allergies and realize your house hasn’t had a good cleaning since Christmas.

Yet Spring Cleaning shouldn’t start with just cleaning the clutter from your house, office, car, wherever you reside. Begin your tidying up by spring-cleaning your spiritual life, which will lead to a more successful effort to removing the unnecessary clutter from your physical life.

What better resource to find the tools for cleaning your life in a way God and Mr. Clean would approve than with the good book, the Bible?

As with the first step in traditional Spring Cleaning, realizing a change is needed is one of the most challenging strides to make, but also the most rewarding. The Bible expounds on humility among believers, recognizing that releasing one’s will to submit to God’s is one that will be filled with abundant blessings.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
~ 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

“The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.”
~ Proverbs 15:33 (KJV)

With change comes the removal of items, from physical to emotional, that could discourage you from adopting a clean, clear path and true intimacy with God.

“‘Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.’ Now this, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.”
~ Hebrews 12:26-27 (NKJV)

In the process of removing harmful obstacles from one’s life comes the realization of having to also let go of past mistakes, beliefs and habits. This will also include forgiving yourself and others, while also asking for God’s forgiveness.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
~ 1 John 1:8, 9 (KJV)

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
~ Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)

You may not have understood that this cleaning would require going deep into your soul, but God makes it possible to have a clean slate and that means releasing the past to Him. This will allow room in your heart to embrace the new blessings and changes God has in store for your purpose in life.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
~ Romans 12:1-3 (KJV)

“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the Same Spirit….And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
~ 1 Corinthians 12:4, 6-7

Okay, you have cleared the clutter in your life, and clinched the new gifts and opportunities that God has provided for you, but your Spring Cleaning does not just reside in the spring. Continued cleaning is needed throughout every season of life, by daily seeking God through prayer and counsel, trusting Him for the peace that comes from thriving in His will.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
~ Proverbs 3:5-6

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
~ Matthew 21:22

Spring Cleaning doesn’t have to be a time-consuming action done every first day of spring; it can be a life-changing event that develops the love and trust between you and the Heavenly Father as you free yourself from the snares of the sins from the past.
