There’s so much to know about Xulon Press and if you’re reading this blog, it’s because you want to know more. Starting with this post, we are going to tell you more about ourselves so we can all become an even greater family. Readers, authors and everyone else: meet Mike Funk. He works in the Special Projects Department as a Web Developer and has now been with Xulon Press for just over two years. If you come to our offices and meet him in his spiffy button-ups, khakis and dress shoes you’d never guess…
He runs to work barefoot! Perhaps you have seen him on his run from Altamonte Springs to Maitland every morning, or on his run back home in the evening. He’s tall, slim and steady – and consistently surprising people. Mike says others walking on the sidewalks are often frightened as he passes by or give him the unsolicited advice that running barefoot is not safe. However, he’s been doing it for so long that he has a good handle on what is and is not advisable. In fact, since he started running barefoot over a year ago, he has run more than 2,500 miles.
The first week he accomplished running 100 miles in seven days, he was so excited about it that his wife filled in a form on the Orlando Sentinel website telling them his story. Staff called her that same day and shortly after Mike met a reporter and photographer to explain all about how and why he runs (you can read the story here). The Orlando Sentinel partners with local Fox 35 News and not too long after the Sentinel published the online article about Mike, he found himself doing an interview with a television reporter and a cameraman who captured footage of him on one of his runs.
The story doesn’t end there; just a couple of weeks ago Mike was interviewed a third time for a news syndicate that will provide the story to a number of different broadcasters. The 100-mile goal was one that he set for himself, but he says the website dailymile.com is a great resource for information and inspiration as well. At this point there’s no telling how far he’ll go – either in miles or in interviews! Mike is just one of many people here at Xulon who is dynamic, energetic and passionate about what they do. Bringing that energy and passion to Xulon each day helps us to exchange ideas, complete projects and meet goals in order to offer our authors the best publishing experience possible.
What gets you going? I’d love to read your comments about your passions and goals, what inspires you and energizes you, whether you are already a published author or are in the planning stages of publishing a book. Share your thoughts and welcome to the Xulon family!

When a publisher provides packages on their website to choose from, what is the best way to say yes, I want that package and I’m ready to send in my down payment? Is it normal for the specialist to get an idea about your book first and then sign you up or will they sign you up and learn about your book later?
Hi John…At Xulon Press, our Publishing Consultants like to speak with authors to get a sense of what their book is about. That allows them to match authors with a package that best suits their needs. If you have additional questions about the publishing process, you can reach one of our consultants at 1-866-381-2665 or fill out the contact form at http://www.xulonpress.com.
Thanks for checking out the Xulon Press Blog!
It’s nice to be able to put a face with the names. (Sending some shout-outs!) Thank you Terry for help in choosing a marketing package and Erika for editorial overview, and so many others for help with every step in the process to get my book published.
Thank you Xulon team members!
